Finding the right career starts long before your first day at work. From writing a strong CV to preparing for interviews and developing the right mindset, every step matters.
We spoke to Armina Sargsyan, Regional HR Director at All About Cargo, about what recruiters really look for, how the hiring process works, and what it takes to build a successful career in logistics.
CV & First Impressions
What makes a CV stand out to recruiters at All About Cargo?
Armina Sargsyan:
Experience is certainly what we look at first—it gives us the clearest picture of immediate readiness. That said, we are by no means closed to candidates without a logistics background. We take a broader view, carefully considering educational foundation, transferable skills, and, importantly, English proficiency, which is essential for our daily client and internal communications. For us, a well-rounded candidate can be just as valuable as someone with years of industry experience.
What happens after someone submits an application?
Armina Sargsyan:
Every application is reviewed by our team. Candidates who match our criteria are contacted within five business days to move forward. We keep the process efficient and respect every applicant's time.
The Hiring Process
How many interviews are involved? What are the stages of the hiring process?
Armina Sargsyan:
We follow a streamlined three-stage process. First, a brief phone conversation with HR to assess motivation and basic alignment. Second, a competency-based interview with the hiring manager, focused on practical scenarios. If the candidate successfully matches our requirements, we invite them to a training stage, where we can evaluate their skills in a more hands-on environment. This approach helps us make informed decisions while giving candidates a realistic preview of the role.
What immediately catches your attention during an interview?
Armina Sargsyan:
Two things stand out. First, when a candidate clearly has done their research about our company — they know who we are, what we do, and can speak to specific details that go beyond our website. That tells me they are genuinely interested, not just sending out applications randomly. Second, I pay attention to candidates who can describe a real challenge they solved with clear context, action, and outcome. That combination of preparation and practical experience always catches my eye.
Starting a Career in Logistics
How important is previous logistics experience? Can someone without logistics experience succeed at All About Cargo?
Armina Sargsyan:
It is an advantage, but not a requirement. We have seen professionals from retail, hospitality, and even education transition successfully into logistics. We also welcome students and recent graduates who are eager to learn and bring fresh energy to our team. What matters more is intellectual agility, resilience, and a client-first mindset. We have the training infrastructure to teach the technical side; we cannot teach character or work ethic.

Skills & Values
What are the top skills every successful employee should have? What values are most important at All About Cargo?
Armina Sargsyan:
Top skills include adaptability, attention to detail, and customer orientation. We also highly value discipline — the ability to follow through, meet deadlines, and maintain consistency in daily work. Punctuality, respect for colleagues, and a strong work ethic are also part of our corporate culture. Our guiding principle is simple: take ownership, deliver on promises, and support your team. These are not slogans — they are daily practices we measure and reward.
How important are communication and problem-solving abilities?
Armina Sargsyan:
They are foundational. Logistics is inherently unpredictable — delays, capacity issues, and changing client demands are part of the daily reality. Employees who can articulate issues clearly, propose viable options, and remain solution-oriented under pressure are the ones who excel here. These abilities directly impact client trust and operational efficiency.
Learning & Development
How do you help people adapt to the industry?
Armina Sargsyan:
We have a structured onboarding program that includes shadowing, theoretical training, and practical hands-on experience. New hires are gradually introduced to our systems, terminology, and workflows, with regular check-ins to ensure they feel supported. We also encourage them to ask questions freely at any stage — not just during onboarding, but well beyond. Our team is supportive, and we believe that curiosity and continuous learning are key to long-term success.
What challenges do new employees face most often?
Armina Sargsyan:
The pace and complexity of the industry are usually the biggest adjustments. Additionally, as an exclusive partner of Landstar, new employees must go through all the required processes and certifications to meet their high standards — which is not an easy task. Understanding our internal systems, mastering logistics terminology, and learning to prioritize effectively in a fast-moving environment also take time. However, our team culture is patient and collaborative, and we celebrate progress at every stage.
